Fossil Gen 7 Rumours

The Fossil Gen 7 was expected in Q4 of 2022, but to this day, no smartwatch has surfaced. Q4 officially has one month left, and we’ve heard and seen nothing from Fossil regarding the Fossil Gen 7.

In this blog, we share what we expect from the Fossil Gen 7.

What We Expect from the Fossil Gen 7

We currently know the minimum about the Fossil Gen 7 since no details have been published about the smartwatch. We don’t even know if it will be released, which chip it will run on, or which operating system the Gen 7 will have.

Read on to discover what we expect from the Fossil Gen 7.

Fossil Gen 7 Rumours: A New Design

Fossil has maintained a round watch face in recent years, and we expect this to remain unchanged for the Fossil Gen 7. Earlier this year, in April, two models were registered with the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) by Fossil, with details suggesting both will have round displays. Whether these are the Fossil Gen 7 remains uncertain.

We anticipate no design change for the Fossil Gen 7, given the consistency in design across previous Fossil Gen models.

Fossil Gen 7 Rumours: Specifications

The specifications of the Fossil Gen 7 remain a mystery, but the FCC registration provided some useful insights. It’s possible the Gen 7 will still support wireless charging. We also expect the return of features like the SpO2 sensor, built-in GPS, built-in speaker, heart rate sensor, and NFC for Google Pay.

The Gen 7 could debut with the Snapdragon 5100 SoC, Qualcomm’s new chip. The Snapdragon 5100 was expected to be unveiled in 2022, like the Fossil Gen 7. If the Snapdragon is released for a smartwatch, and the 5100 is published for the Fossil Gen 7, it’s safe to assume the Gen 7 will likely run on this chip.

Fossil Gen 7 Rumours: Improved Software

It seems obvious to expect the Fossil Gen 7 to run on Wear OS 3. However, Google has not made a clear statement about when Wear OS 3 will roll out to older wearables, let alone future ones.

Aside from the Galaxy Watch 4, Google has not clarified which new smartwatches will get Wear OS 3. We’ll need to wait for more clarity, as the operating system is a key factor in many purchasing decisions.

Fossil Gen 7 Rumours: Enhanced Battery Life

Despite improvements in charging speed, the battery life of the Fossil Gen 6 is weak, lasting about 24 hours with normal use.

With GPS mode on, the battery drains even faster. The TicWatch Pro 3 Ultra, for instance, lasts three days with normal use, which is impressive for Wear OS.

Compared to competitors like Garmin and Fitbit, the Fossil Gen series lags in battery life. We expect an improvement here for the Gen 7.

Fossil Gen 7 Rumours: Diving Deeper

3 ATM is more than sufficient for everyday use. If you’re a swimmer, you might consider removing your Gen 6. It’s not a major issue, but improving water resistance wouldn’t hurt. Compared to competitors in the same price range, nearly all smartwatches offer a 5 ATM water resistance rating.

Fossil Gen 7 Rumours: Sleep Monitoring

While deep sleep and REM sleep are important, light sleep and periods of restlessness are also key to assessing sleep quality. Accurate data is crucial for evaluating sleep quality. The Gen 7 won’t be a health-focused smartwatch, but that doesn’t mean its sleep monitoring basics should be superficial.

Fossil Gen 7 Rumours: Release Date

The Fossil Gen 5 models launched in August 2019, about a year after the 4th generation Fossil Gen. The Fossil Gen 6 debuted in September 2021. We’re now nearing 2023, making a release this year highly unlikely. There’s been no indication suggesting the Gen 7 will launch. Even the Google Pixel Watch has been released first.

Our expectation is that the Gen 7 will launch in Q4 of 2023.

Fossil Gen 7 Rumours: Price

The Fossil Gen 6 is currently available in two sizes: 42mm and 44mm.

  42 mm 44 mm
Price £300.00 £330.00

The prices above are for the Fossil Gen 6 at its 2021 release date. We expect the Fossil Gen 7 to be available in the same sizes at similar prices upon release.

Conclusion

Overall, we know little about the Fossil Gen 7. For now, it’s just speculation based on available information. We’ll keep our ears and eyes open for news about the Gen 7 and update this blog when new details emerge!
