Alongside the Huawei Band 7, Huawei is also launching another smartwatch this year: the Huawei Watch Fit 2. Positioned in a higher segment, it comes with more features. Discover what these are in our review.
Specifications
Let’s dive straight into an overview of the specifications:
Huawei Watch Fit 2 | |
---|---|
Dimensions | 46mm x 33.5mm x 10.8mm |
Display | 1.74 inch AMOLED |
Resolution | 336 x 480 pixels (336 PPI) |
Waterproof | Yes (5 ATM) |
Battery | 292 mAh (7-10 days) |
GPS | Built-in |
The specifications reveal that the Huawei Watch Fit 2 has a larger screen than its predecessor. It closely resembles the Huawei Watch Fit, which isn’t a drawback. The Watch Fit 2 features a classic square design, offering an elegant look and comfortable fit. The display boasts a high pixel density and performs sharply in tests, with more details later.
The Huawei Watch Fit 2 includes built-in GPS, a significant advantage, eliminating the need to carry your phone while cycling or running. Contactless payment is available with the Classic or Elegant versions. We’ll compare all editions later in this blog.
Design
Huawei has stuck with the rectangular design of the Huawei Watch Fit, as the Watch Fit 2 closely resembles its predecessor. It also shares similarities with the more affordable Band 7. We find the rectangular shape gives it a classic smartwatch look and makes it easy to use.
The design varies by edition; the Huawei Watch Fit 2 is available in different versions: the sporty Active Edition with a silicone strap, the Classic Edition with a leather strap, or the Elegant Edition with luxurious Milanese straps.
A button on the side of the Watch Fit 2 allows navigation through menus and app closure. Combined with the touchscreen, this enables quick and easy navigation. Huawei’s HarmonyOS software has been refined, positioning it, in our view, as one of the best smartwatch operating systems.
Active vs Classic vs Elegant
The Huawei Watch Fit 2 is available in three editions: Active Edition, Classic Edition, and Elegant Edition. The differences go beyond price and appearance. Here’s a breakdown of the variations:
Active | Classic | Elegant | |
---|---|---|---|
Price | £149.00 | £179.00 | £229.00 |
Wrist Size | 13 to 21 cm | 14 to 21 cm | 12 to 20 cm |
Weight | 26 grams | 30 grams | 30 grams |
Materials | Polymer | Aluminium & Polymer | Aluminium & Polymer |
Strap | Silicone | Leather | Milanese |
NFC | ❌ | ✔️ | ✔️ |
There are several key differences. The watch’s design heavily depends on the chosen edition. The sporty Active with a silicone strap looks quite different from the stylish Elegant with its luxurious Milanese strap. For contactless payment, opt for the Classic or Elegant, as NFC isn’t supported on the Active.
What is NFC? NFC stands for Near-Field Communication, the hardware enabling contactless payments at card terminals. |
Some aspects remain consistent across versions. All run the same software, and the display and dimensions of the Watch Fit 2 stay the same. Beyond the mentioned sensors and features, these are also identical. The same charger works for all versions.
Sensors & Features
A key function of a smartwatch is supporting sports and workouts. The Huawei Watch Fit 2 comes with a robust lineup of sensors and features to assist, including 96 sports modes, a heart rate monitor, and an SpO2 sensor.
With built-in GPS, you can easily track distance and location. This is great for monitoring running or cycling speed and distance, and supports navigation—a key feature, meaning no phone is needed for running, cycling, or walking.
Huawei has added a new ‘healthy living’ feature, letting you set personal goals, with the watch helping you achieve them. We tested this and found it effective. You can also create a running plan based on your health. To motivate you, Huawei includes a game-like experience rewarding milestones during exercise.
The Huawei Watch Fit 2 also features a sleep monitor. The Huawei TruSleep doesn’t always perform well in tests; for accurate sleep tracking, consider a Fitbit or Garmin smartwatch instead.
Display
The Huawei Watch Fit 2’s display is very sharp thanks to its 336 x 480 pixel resolution. The 1.74-inch AMOLED display is slightly larger than the 1.64-inch screen of the Huawei Watch Fit, showing more information at the cost of size.
Thanks to the Watch Fit 2’s strong performance, the touchscreen is fast and responsive. Animations are smooth, and scrolling or swiping feels seamless.
The Watch Fit 2 includes an Always-On function, so you don’t need to wake it to read the screen. To save battery, you can disable this and opt for a wake function that activates the screen when you look at it.
Battery
With its 292 mAh battery, the Watch Fit 2 requires infrequent charging. Huawei claims up to 10 days with normal use and 7 days with heavy use. Our tests confirm these claims.
The Watch Fit 2 lasted 7 days in our tests with constant heart rate, SpO2, and healthy living features on, meaning the Huawei Watch 7 performs well in battery life compared to other smartwatches.
Charging is quick and easy, but the magnetic charger is quite sensitive. Precise placement is needed for proper charging. We’d prefer a USB-C port on the back, as seen on some other Huawei watches.
Easily and Quickly Swap Straps
The Huawei Watch Fit 2 features a new strap replacement system: the ‘Link Design’ quick-release mechanism. Press a button to detach and replace the strap, with the new one clicking into place instantly.
Want a new look? The system makes it fast. Explore our wide range of straps for the Huawei Watch Fit 2. Post-workout, easily swap your silicone strap for an elegant leather or Milanese strap.
Price and Availability of the Huawei Watch Fit 2
The Huawei Watch Fit 2 has been available in the UK since 16 June 2022. The price is typical for the mid-range segment and depends on the edition you choose.
Active | Classic | Elegant | |
---|---|---|---|
Price | £149.00 | £179.00 | £229.00 |
Conclusion
The Huawei Watch Fit 2 is a great all-round smartwatch. It offers ample features for various activities and sports, with the new ‘healthy living’ function effectively supporting a healthy lifestyle. The battery life is excellent, requiring a charge only once a week.
It’s not overly expensive, but cheaper options exist in this segment, like the Fitbit Charge 5. The sleep monitor performs moderately, lagging behind other watches in this category.
