You can charge your Apple Watch using the original Apple Watch charger with an adapter, a wireless charging station, or a powered USB port.
Ways to Charge an Apple Watch
Since the Apple Watch Series 3, all models are Qi-compatible, allowing charging via a Qi charger or universal charging station. Here are the main charging methods:
- Using the original charger (with an adapter)
- Via a Qi charging station
- Through a USB port on your TV or laptop
Charging with the Original Charger
The smartest option is to use the original charger supplied with your Apple Watch. Note that it no longer includes an adapter, so you’ll need to source one. Your iPhone’s adapter works perfectly with the Apple Watch charger.
Types of Adapters
The Apple Watch charger comes in two variants. Newer models use a USB-C adapter, while older models use a USB-A adapter.
The adapter type doesn’t affect charging speed, but ensure the cable fits the adapter.
Avoid using outdated adapters with insufficient amperage. Opt for a 5V adapter, and higher amperage is better for efficient charging.
Charging Without an Adapter
You can charge your Apple Watch without an adapter by using a USB port on a laptop, TV, or other device, provided it supports 5V.
If the USB port has a label like the one above, it’s suitable for charging an Apple Watch.
Universal Docking Station
With third-party accessories like our 3-in-1 Apple Watch/iPhone docking station, you can charge your iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods simultaneously using just one power outlet. This custom-designed dock uses Qi wireless charging for the iPhone and Apple Watch, with a fixed Lightning connector for AirPods.
No Reverse Charging or PowerShare
The Apple Watch cannot be charged via Reverse Charging or Samsung’s Wireless PowerShare. Unlike the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4, which supports charging via recent Samsung smartphones, the Apple Watch does not charge with an iPhone.
Charging an Apple Watch with an iPhone
Currently, you cannot charge an Apple Watch using an iPhone or other devices with Reverse Charging. It requires an Apple Watch charger or a compatible charging dock.
Charging an Apple Watch Without a Charger
There’s no way to charge an Apple Watch without a dedicated charger or universal charging dock at this time.
Are All Apple Watch Chargers the Same?
All chargers for Apple Watch Series 1 through 7 are universal and compatible across models. A charger for an Apple Watch 4 will work with an Apple Watch 7, and vice versa.
If you’re visiting someone with an Apple Watch charger from a different series, you can safely use it to charge your watch.
