Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra announcement and release date

The time has come: During today's Samsung Unpacked event the new Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra was officially announced. A number of leaks had already come out about the Watch Ultra. We can now see which leaks were correct, and which were not.

This blog will take a look at the recent announcement, and of course the release date and price of the Galaxy Watch Ultra. Are you going to pre-order the Galaxy Watch Ultra? Or will you skip this one? Let us know why in the comments below.

Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra release date

The Galaxy Watch Ultra is available for pre-order starting today. Placing a pre-order for the watch means you'll get a nylon 'Trail' strap for free, as well as being one of the first consumers to receive the Watch Ultra. In about a week's time, the Watch Ultra will be available in stores.

  • Galaxy Watch Ultra release date: July19th, 2024
  • Galaxy Watch Ultra available starting: July 19th, 2024

The launch for the Galaxy Watch Ultra coincides with the launch for the Galaxy Watch 7. This smartwatch continues the design we've seen in previous Galaxy Watches, whereas the Ultra completely strays from all design elements we're used to from Samsung. The price of the Galaxy Watch 7 is quite a bit lower than that of the Ultra.

Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra price

The new Galaxy Watch Ultra promises a ton of new functions and a totally revamped design. This redesign comes with at a new price point as well. The Galaxy Watch Ultra is significantly more expensive than the regular Samsung smartwatches like the Galaxy Watch 6 and 7.

The pricing of the new Galaxy Watch Ultra is as followed:

Model

Prijs

Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra

£ 599.-

Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 (40mm)

£ 289.-

Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 (44mm)

£ 319.-

Galaxy Watch 7 (40mm) LTE

£ 339.-

Galaxy Watch 7 (44mm) LTE

£ 369.-

The price of the Galaxy Watch Ultra is £ 599, which towers above the other models that got released this year. You are easily paying double the amount you would for the Galaxy Watch 7. The Galaxy Watch Ultra is still cheaper than the Apple Watch Ultra however, which is for sale starting at £ 899.

Galaxy Watch Ultra announced at Samsung Unpacked

During the announcement of the Ultra at Samsung's 'Unpacked' event, we could finally see what leaks became reality. One thing is clear: The Galaxy Watch Ultra does indeed get a brand new design. It's the same as we've seen in previous leaks, a square watch with buttons and a wheel on the side. The design appears to be strongly influenced by the Apple Watch Ultra.

Visually, the most striking element is the square frame which is still using the round screen from previous iterations. It's clear that people are divided over this decision, but it's definitely a big step in Samsung's design language. The Digital Crown from the Apple Watch Ultra can be seen on Samsung's Ultra as well, something that was not seen yet in any design by Samsung.

Functions of the Watch Ultra

The Galaxy Watch Ultra promises to be the ultimate smartwatch for sports. It's also great for use during hiking, mountain biking, or camping. This means the Galaxy Watch Ultra is comparable in use to the Apple Watch Ultra.

All your health data will now be procesed by Galaxy AI. That means you'll get personalised goals with more insights than before. Samsung promises you to be able to push your boundaries more, as the AI creates an accurate profile of your body and health.

Aside from that, there's of course all the imaginable health functions and sensors. The dual-frequency GPS gives you accurate data while running, biking, or hiking. The Ultra can now measure blood glucose levels, as well as detect signs of possible slaap apnea.

Straps

The completely revamped design comes with a new strap connector as well. The Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra straps can not be used on other Samsung smartwatches. It's not possible to reuse straps from your old Galaxy Watch 5 or 6.

The straps will click into the case, instead of using the previous quick release pin system. This is surprising as only last year, Samsung release the One-Click system to replace your straps more easily. We'll see the One-Click system on the Galaxy Watch 7 straps, however.

Colours

The Samsung Galaxy Ultra, contrary to the Apple Watch Ultra, will be available in multiple colours. You can choose from these three colours when ordering:

  1. Titanium Silver
  2. Titanium Grey
  3. Titanium White
