Galaxy Watch 7 announced at Samsung Unpacked

The Samsung Unpacked event is a large press moment to announce all the newest products. This event featured the smartwatches, as well as the Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 smartphones. There was a lot of leaked information about the Galaxy Watch 7. Today was the day we could see which of these were true.

Earlier leaked renders showed the design of the Watch 7, which is practically the same as the Galaxy Watch 6. It was also apparent early on that no Classic or Pro variant would be made this iteration. Instead, we've got the new Galaxy Watch Ultra which is quite different from the Watch 7.

The Galaxy Watch 7 is available in three colours:

  • The 40mm variant is available in Green and Cream
  • The 44mm variant is available in Green and Silver

Functions of the Galaxy Watch 7

It was speculated that the Galaxy Watch 7 would feature a long-awaited function, being able to track your blood glucose levels. This function is now confirmed to be present, as well as a new health function that can detect sleep apnea. These bits of data, as well as all other health data, is now processed by AI to show advanced details in the data.

The new Exynos W1000 chipset is the most powerful processor ever found on the Galaxy Watch. This is a surprising update, given that the previous generation also got a processor update. There's normally at least two smartwatch generations before the processor gets an update. It could be that the processor upgrade was necessary to run the new AI functions.

The BioActive sensor keeps track of all sorts of data like heartrate and sleep patterns. The sensor has been given an overhaul to be more precise than before. Another component of the watch which got an accuracy buff is the GPS module. This now runs on Dual-Frequency which means you'll get an accurate reading wherever you are.

Straps

The straps for the Galaxy Watch 7 remain unchanged. The connector for both the 40mm as well as the 44mm variant use a 20mm strap, as we've seen since the Galaxy Watch 4 series. The Galaxy Watch 7 straps will not fit the Galaxy Watch Ultra, which received a totally new connector.

In summary

The new Galaxy Watch 7 series is now officially announced. Many functions and specifications which were leaked ahead are now confirmed. The straps of the Galaxy Watch 7 will remain the same as before. You can find the Watch 7 in stores starting July 19th. You can place a pre-order for the new watch on Samsung's website.
